Rebecca General Store & Restaurant

Clayton Goff writes that this was Shiver’s Store for many years. And Brenda Hogan Callaway remembers: My Dad grew up in Rebecca, GA. I visited Rebecca a lot growning up. Mr. Shivers emporium was a fun place to visit. Bessie Sellers Cafe had the best Friday night fish fries anywhere. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church fifth Sunday night gospel rings will always hold special memories. Most of all ..was the residents of Rebecca! The friendliest most generous people in the world. Each one was considered extended family. Rebecca, Georgia holds a special place in my heart..as well as a multitude of fond memories of special people.

Update: I believe this store was razed around the same time as the old Rebecca Curb Store, circa 2010.

Thank you for all of these wonderful photos. Although my partner and I now mostly divide our professional lives between Manhattan and Miami Beach I love to go back to our roots and see the people and the places that have made our lives and our country great. BTW, could you extend your photo territory to north Florida?? Thank you, again….

Thank you, Howell, for your interest in the site, and I’m glad some of my photographs have a resonance for you. I do photograph on occasion in North Florida, though I don’t post them on this site…there are a few recent ones on my Flickr site, though.
