Pulaski Hotel, Circa 1900, Candler County

Pulaski Hotel, with a wraparound porch, featuring a sloped roof and brick columns in front, surrounded by trees and greenery.

This Eclectic Victorian is the most visible landmark in Pulaski. Christine McNeill writes: Now, a private residence, this was originally the hotel in Pulaski. Located across the street from the railroad, train tickets were purchased inside in the front room.

The hotel was one of the first structures built by the Franklin family when Pulaski was established in 1900. At its peak, anchored by the turpentine industry, the little community supported warehouses, general stores, a cotton gin, pharmacy, shoe store, and barber shop.

Update: The Pulaski Hotel was lost to fire on 27 March 2021.

This is now our home and we love it! I so enjoy reading about its history. If only the walls could talk, I’m sure they would have some very interesting stories to share.

I will change the title to reflect that it was a hotel. Thanks, Christine. I wish I had a name for the hotel, but I’m assuming it was the hotel built by the Franklins when they founded Pulaski in 1900.

the ‘pulaski wrap-around’ is an interesting add-on. the front porch piers and columns are probably a later addition. the house appears to predate the porch by at least 25 years. otherwise, the gallery porch should be dressed in the same style. it was a common practice to update to current fashions. there ere companies who suggested this with catalogs and in magazines of the day.
i really enjoy your postings. i generally spend hours whiling away the hours.
    thank you.
