Piget Bar-B-Q, 1953, Cuthbert

The Piget opened in 1953 and owner Jimmy Ragan operated this Cuthbert landmark for many years. It was demolished in June 2013.

The whimsical pig signs at the Piget were as much a landmark as the restaurant itself.

Jimmy Ragan was a relative of mine. My grandparents were W.E. and Lillian Ragan. I have many fond memories of eating at the Piget when I visited as a little girl in the 60s.

There is a new BBQ shack in the Piget’s Location. Food is great and is continuing the legacy of good BBQ in Chuthbert. Give Rolling Smoke a try.

Yes the Piget is closed – The owner, Jimmy Ragan died this year – It is now for sale – Will send you a photo of the FOR SALE sign – I have asked his family for the sign that you photographed for the Randolph County Historical Society Museum that is planned for our renovated Court House .
What was your mother’s maiden name – Please let me know when you will be in Cuthbert again – We would love to have you present a program to the Historical Society – We have now identified the “Mesker” buildings in Cuthbert and are now on the national data base of iron store front buildings – (See article in GEORGIA BACKROADS MAGAZINE – Winter 2012) I am a native of Cuthbert and love to write about it – Frances P. Messer, Secretary , Randolph County Historical Society, Inc.

I’m a native of Rome, GA, but my mom was born and raised in Cuthbert (she gave me my middle name of Randolph). When we visited Cuthbert for her 50th high school reunion back in ’97, we ate at the Piget. Absolutely the best barbecue I’ve ever tasted. Have not found better before or since. When we visited Cuthbert for a family reunion in the summer of 2010, it appeared the Piget was closed, as in permanently. Is this true? If so, too bad. Great food in a great Georgia town!
