King’s Store, Pitts

This is the most substantial commercial landmark remaining in Pitts. It sits at the corner of 8th Street and McDonald Avenue. You can’t miss it. Its fading Coca-Cola mural will beckon you to stop and look around.

Well the one by the highway is called that and then Miss Kay’s dad owns the Kings Store. I lived with her when in was down there. Mr. King is a nice man.

My grandfather had a farm in Pitts and when we visited from Florida in the 50s and 60s my grandfather and my father would drive my brothers and me into the town of Pitts in my grandfather’s pick up truck. We got a thrill being able to ride in the back of the truck. We would stop at the local store in town for candy and I remember the the old guys sitting on tall baskets in the store talking. My grandparents’ home is still there and a family member now lives there. We went back to visit a couple years ago and it was a blast from the past.
