Shoe Repair Sign, Blakely

At one time, tradesmen advertised their wares by shape, as literacy was not as widespread as it is today. Very few of these “shingles” survive; this one in Blakely is one of the few remaining in Georgia.

    When the shoe shop closed, the sign was given to the Early County Museum. Come visit us! We’ve got lots of interesting and unique things. ~ Janie Thomas

    What’s really cool about this picture is that you could remove the two modern vehicles and macadam and replace with model T’s and a dirt road and it would look perfectly natural
