Single-Pen Tenant Farmhouse, Candler County

An old, weathered wooden house with a tin roof, featuring a prominent brick chimney. The structure shows signs of decay, with broken windows and overgrown vegetation surrounding it. A green trash bin and a satellite dish are visible in the foreground.

This tenant farmhouse is an iconic example of the so-called “Cracker” style. Like many such houses, it features a preacher’s room at the front and shed room at the rear. Gail Charles notes that Willie Finch and his family lived here about 60 years ago.

A weathered and old wooden house with a metal roof, featuring peeling paint and an overgrown front yard. The porch has a floral couch and a green trash can.

There are some houses like this one in the city of Fitzgerald, I never knew they were called cracker houses. This is the first time I’ve ever heard that. Thanks for the history lesson.
