C. N. Simpson House, 1874, Cuthbert

This is one of the most beautiful and unique homes in Cuthbert and has recently been restored. Thanks to James Webb for the identification of this, and several other houses here. Corp. Charles Neal Simpson (1843-1922) was a member of Co. E., 31st Reg. “Bartow Guards” Stewart County, Jr.; 4th Corp. 13 November 1861; appointed Color Corp. 15 December 1861; hospital steward 13 May 1862. Surrendered at Appomattox 9 April 1865.

I’m with Rob. I would love to know a little more of its history. I find it intriguing that it has a Star of David just under the roof’s peak (do not know the architectural term).

Am guessing ca. 1870 people came through the south and added the gingerbread. 133 Taylor St. Americus GA is one. Its front was the back originally and it was moved to that location from somewhere else pre the decoations and room on the east side.

Fantastic house with a blend of Gothic and Italianate detailing! These delicate, sawn-work details are found in quite a few antebellum houses in this part of NC. They were usually built in the mid to late 1850’s in northeastern North Carolina or possibly the late 1860’s just after the War. A really wonderful house, Brian, and definitely a prize in my book!
