Ratch DeLoach House, Long County

Though it’s not visible in this photograph, this house has a detached kitchen (later connected to the house) and a wooden shingle roof. Thanks to Margie DeLoach Love for the identification. She remembers that Ratch grew some very hot peppers here.

We took the 301 three times to Florida in the summers during late July Early August. I must have passed by this house. US 301 was a magical place. Kind of like Route 66 for the East side of the USA.

I can’t help but wonder how many children and grandchildren must have played in the yard under the shade of those grand old pecan trees through the years. Even now as i look at the photo I can almost see people playing a game of checkers sitting on the porch.
