The Building committee members names that are listed on the corner stone of the Warthen Bank of those three names one is that of my great grand father G C Walker (which is short for George Columbus Walker). A few interesting facts about Mr. Walker. Mr. G C Walker built a self sufficient farm about three miles north of Warthen on GA Hwy 15 and on that site along with the George Columbus Walker home sits a large barn, a smaller barn, a corncrib, a blacksmith shop, a smoke house and what’s left of a gin, a chimney which is what’s left of the home of a doctor’s office, still attached to the front porch of the main home is a ledge which marks the place where a store was located at one time. Mr. G C Walker’s home now has his great great grandchildren running through the rooms of his home. That’s the 6th generation to live in this home. He and his family attended Union Baptist Church where they are buried. Mr. G C Walker’s great great grandchild along with other family in the area also attend Union Baptist Church.
Warthen, Washington County is the birthplace of my Mothers faimly. We used to visit my Great Aunt & Uncle who remained there throughout the 60’s. Their home was just accross the way from the old jail. Our families old homeplace stil stands and is currently owned by my last remaining Aunt.
All the family are buried at Union Baptist Church Washington, County.
HE WAS A GOOD BUILDER TO LAST AS LONG AS IT HAS…
