All our Georgia rivers are swollen beyond their banks again and it’s a beautiful sight to me. After witnessing their struggles through so much drought in the recent past, I’m glad to see them as a beacon to people who love the outdoors. I just hope people will continue to understand more about the constant threats of pollution they all face and that a balance between industry and environment must and can be struck.

I just found this and haven’t has time to look much yet. I’ll be interested in Midville, Mc Kenny’s Pond, Millen, Waynesboro. Higdons, Scotts Chews, and much. Thank you.
Ok, I know y’all out there know about the Bullhole in Herndon!!!!
One of the last things my dad and I did was go down to this landing and sit and watch the current go by, and talk about all the things we both enjoyed as kids. I learned things about his generation, and I am sure he learned some things about mine. I cannot think about Georgia and this river, that I don’t remember with great fondness, the time we shared on that evening with the sun going down, the sounds of the river, flowing just like time does, and my dad and I living in that moment, where time truly stood still if only for a moment.
That’s Rocky Ford Landing
It looks like the one on 301 North going toward Sylvania. Just about five miles out of Statesboro.
Hi Brian, could not have said it better myself. We all should be stewards of the water, land and air. Probably not in my lifetime, but soon we will all pay the price for not caring and protecting our invaluable natural resources. thanks
Back in the 50s and 60s had aunts, uncles, cousins all around this boat launch area. In the evening would put out bank lines, and trot lines, come back at night, haul the catch in, and build a fire right there and cook the catfish and eel, whatever else was edible, corn on the cob, grits, hushpuppies, and have a feast. So dark away from the fire, you could not see your hand in front of your face. What a memory. Soaking up Florida sun now, but go back from time to time. What great memories. Thanks to the Gwinetts, Shumans, Carpenters, and Ruths, and great folks.
What landing is this?
This is the landing between Oliver, and going in the direction of Statesboro. Highway 40 I think. All these bridges were wooden at one time, used to scare the heck out of me when I was a kid and we drove them at night. .
I didn’t see a sign indicating the name of the landing, but it’s between Portal and Rocky Ford…literally on the Bulloch/Screven county line. It has a large paved parking lot that looks relatively new.
Thanks for the memories, Ruth!
