Located near English Eddy, this old farmhouse looks perfectly at home in this grove of ancient oaks. June Dixon writes: In the 1930s this was the Columbia Mann (Mrs. Soloman Mann) home place. She was known as Miss Cumbie. This was a farm; the woodlands across the road were once open fields. There’s a small dip in the east bound lane of Highway 147 in front of the house. Many times it’s been filled in, but it always comes back. My dad said there was a well there. It was filled in and paved over.
A detached kitchen remains, and was joined to the house at some point. Other structures on the property indicate this was likely used as a hunting lodge at some time.

I don’t know how or when the property became Attorney Steve Hall and his mother’s from Lyons, GA but I know they owned it in the late 40’s to 1975 or later because my late-law’s lived there. When Mrs. Hall and Steve died the property went to his sister and her son. When Mrs. Hall’s grandson got it, he might have lost it in a divorce settlement so I heard. My children and their cousins have fond memories of visiting there.
It was not lost in a divorce settlement. The tract 150 acres that was sold to Rollins was already deeded to me, Nancy Heath, long before our divorce. He sold the remaining 650 acres to the O’Neals before our divorce as well. We divorced in 1989. I sold that smaller tract in 1995-96 after completing Master’s degree in Speech Pathology at VSU. We then moved to Dublin Ga. Where I worked in my profession until retirement.
Neil’s Uncle and Mother died before his Grandmother Winifred Hall. We have 3 children. Winifred Hollingsworth Heath, Edith McElheney Heath Hodges , and Solomon Clark Tilfold Heath. We have 3 grandchildren, all boys.

Thanks, June!
I must correct my mistake! Columbia Shelton Dopson Mann (AKA Miss Cumbie) was married to John T. Mann. Their daughter, Winefred Mann, married Solomon Hall. That’s where the name Solomon comes in. Miss Winnie’s grandson, Neal Heath inherited the family property. The home place is now owned by Tommy Rollins. Other Mann properties are owned by the O’Neal family.
Wonderful photos!
Hi Brian, Great photos again. That massive live oak tree looks like it is either extending its huge reaching limbs to protect this rare specimen house or spookily it might be fixing to fall over the house and destroy it with those same mighty limbs-you be the judge- would make a great “haunted house” or imagine this place in a big budget Hollywood movie??
Oh I want it!!!
What an ethereal photo the first one is. I have never heard of English Eddy before – does such a place exist?
