This is among the oldest congregations in Atkinson County, dating to 1858. Its large cemetery is the final resting place of numerous Wiregrass Georgia pioneers. Some of the earliest members were Reverend John G. Taylor, Kindred Griffis, John P. Wall, Charlie Brooker, John Brooker, John Mixon, Dougal Gillis, David Sutton, and Elias Wright.
My grandparents, John T. Spivey and Misouri Arnold Spivey, are buried at Mt. Zion and I want to place a stone on their graves, but I don’t know which graves they are in. Is there a grave plot for the cemetery and could you please help me find where those graves are so I can have the stone made.
It was my maternal grandmother Arloe Wall Vining’s father, John Wall who donated the land on which Mt. Zion is built. We Vining and Wall descendents have lots of ancestors buried in this cemetery. It’s such a joy to see the church ongoing, after so many years, and to see how well the church, grounds and cemetery are maintained. Kudos to the Mt. Zion faithful!

This has an interactive map that shows Georgia, and the United States, back to the 1700’s. I know you enjoy photographing old structures and thought you might be interested in this.
Also, have you heard of Box Spring, Georgia? It’s near Columbus. I love the name and didn’t now if you had photos.
