G. Morgan Copland was the first Principal. Members of the Board of Trustees were: J. B. Morgan, Chairman; John M. Willis, Secretary-Treasurer; M. G. Hogan; Warren Fletcher; and W. A. York. It has since served as the home of Irwin Academy and Grace Christian Academy. Mr. Foster Goolsby served for many years as headmaster of Irwin Academy.
The cornerstone identifies the architects as Grier & Biggers. I believe “Grier” was actually Valdosta architect Lloyd Greer, who designed many schoolhouses. Biggers was presumably Columbus architect J. J. W. Biggers.
I remember so much my eight years at Mystic School. If someone could remember and share with me the name of our first grade school teacher I would be so grateful. I’m gathering memories of my childhood including my years in school for my kids.

I started school at Mystic in 1946 and went there through the 7th grade. Mrs. Mary Poole was my 7th grade teacher.

In 1947 I think the 1st grade teacher at Mystic was Mrs. Bullard, she taught me there when I started school in 1946.

My Mother and a Father both graduated from there. My Uncle Max Towson lived right next door.

I remember Mrs. Towson that had a grocery store there in Mystic. Is she your family? She was so good to our family. My dad was Jesse Griffin.
My grandmother graduated from there in 1940. I still have her senior ring.
Is this school still open? I went to kindergarten at Irwin Academy. I think about it often and would love to take a look inside my classroom.
I attended this school first thru eighth grade until we moved to Firzgerald. Years 1934-1942.
