Sherry Kiltz writes that this was originally L.C. Moon’s Grocery and that his family also owned the red building next door (package store). Mr. L.C. was also the mayor of Scotland for years.
Corrugated tin buildings of this style were once widely used as stores in small towns throughout Georgia, as I’ve found in my travels, but the ones that survive are often resigned to storage use today. It was later known as Smith’s Grocery and Granny’s Restaurant.
When I was a young kid in the 70s, even into the early 80s, I loved going to Mr. LC’s store. I bought my first comic books there and the last time I remember going there, I bought a soft drink and a pack of crackers during the summer of 1985 after a long day helping to build a house near Scotland. The day was memorable because I got thrown off the back of a truck a few minutes later. I doubt I ever saw Mr. LC after that but I still have such great memories of his store.
