You’ll pass this landmark driving between Leesburg and Dawson on Highway 32. It’s just over the line in Terrell County. I first photographed it over six years ago, and I’m amazed it’s still hanging on. There seems to be a lot of clear-cutting and land clearing going on in its immediate vicinity. I hope it will be spared.

Note- While a sign on the side of the building identifies it as “McLendon Gro.” there is some doubt if this was actually the name of the business.

You can see the old store on Google Earth Street View dated December 2018. 31 45 29 N, 84 17 17.8 W
I live about a half mile across the field behind this old store. I had been thinking of making a picture of it to send in, but I guess it isn’t needed now. Adam Speir, old man Wylie McLendon farmed the land where it is located and lived close to it. I don’t remember if he was in the house across the road or in the on the same side going to Leesburg. The Mclendon family no longer owns it, if they ever owned it.
You’re still welcome to share any photos. Thanks for the information.
HI BRIAN, GREAT PHOTOS. I AM AMAZED-NOW THAT IS AN “OLD” GROCERY STORE . I LOVE THE OLD SINGLE GAS PUMP OUT FRONT. THIS PLACE REALLY NEEDS TO BE PRESERVED. WOW!!
THANKS FOR LETTING ME “SEE” SUCH PLACES.
Does anyone know why it’s called McLendon Grocery or the history behind it? I’m kin to McLendon’s in Terrell County but most of our family was in the pleasant hill community. I wasn’t aware of any McLendons over on the Lee/Terrell side.
Two great photos of a beautiful building.
Thanks, David. I’ve passed it and photographed it many times. It’s a real survivor!
