Parrott is one of the most beautiful small towns in South Georgia.

Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the historic district is the unusually large number of Queen Anne cottages, which range from simple to ornate in design.

These were built around the turn of the last century, at the height of Parrott’s economic prominence.

Most small towns boast a few examples, but when you consider the population of Parrott is around 150, it’s quite extraordinary.

The house with the green gates on the front porch belongs to Dr. Alan and Mr. Archer Seely-Wilson. The house was built in 1890 for Dr. John T. Arnold. It was purchased in 1997 by Dr. Alan Wilson and Archer L Seely, who are still the owners.
These homes are beautiful. This is the type home my Grandson, Will Gay lives in in Jenkins County, It belonged to my Greatgrandfather, John D. Newton and was built in 1909. Of course there have been numerous updates over the years and is in very good condition!!
Thank you for stopping by Parrott and taking photographs of some of our homes. We love our little town and if you have any questions we will be happy to try and answer them. Please come back any time!
Brian,
Our Americus Times Recorder publisher is a Parrott native. I showed her some of your shots and turns out her mom grew up in one of the homes. I told her she needs to subscribe to your site. Great pictures !

Thanks, Jimmy. She’s gotten in touch and is a big help!
I grew up in Parrott and I spend a lot of time at my parents’ home there now. It is my hope that I can live there fulltime again some day if I ever decide to retire from newspapering. The town of Parrott has never been for sale. Various businesses have been on the market but the City of Parrott? No way!
I didn’t think that was the case, Beth, but someone at the post office mentioned that. Perhaps he was referring to the fact that a lot of buildings were once for sale.
I used to drive through Parrot on a regular basis and loved to detour off the main road to get a better vision of the town. It is indeed a lovely, unique and fascinating little town. Am I correct in remembering that 10 or 15 years ago most of the well preserved commercial district was for sale? Don’t know whether it ever did get a buyer…I haven’t been that way in several years. Thanks for bringing it back to my mind Brian.
Ben, I believe you are right about the town having been for sale at one time. Not positive, but we talked to a local there who mentioned something to that effect.
I love, love, love Parrot
Isn’t it great, Susie?!
Lovely homes! Thanks!
