Sara Begley writes: “The house was owned by Judge Barnard Hill who presided over the Macon circuit. He died on the bench while hearing a case in 1877…He and his second wife Mary Clay Birch Hill (Daughter of John Neville Birch and Ann Dilworth Birch) had 2 sons, and the older son was Walter Barnard Hill. Walter was the Chancellor at UGA from 1899 until his death in 1905 (The Hill men had a bad run of working themselves to death, one of Barnard’s grandsons, also a lawyer, was murdered while he was working...”
