Bay Free Will Baptist Church, Colquitt County

Note the similarity between this church and Funston United Methodist. They must have been built by the same contractor, likely a local builder.

My father, Wayne Chandler Faison, was one of the charter members until his death in 1965. Homecoming is today, February 1,2026. I will be there to worship our God and enjoy fellowship with the current members. BTW, I’ll be sitting with Jesus. It should be a very interesting service and I’m looking forward to it. I don’t know who built Funston Methodist Church, but several charter members of Bay Free Will Baptist Church constructed its building in the 1950’s. The 3 charter members/ trustees / deacons that I know constructed the church were Curtis Gay, Wayne Faison and my grandfather, Charlie Jackson Faison, Sr. This group of men and their families had been members of Midway Free Will Baptist Church (also in Colquitt Co. On the Upper Meigs Road just a few miles from Moultrie) and had been traveling about 15 miles to attend services. Many roads were unpaved and could prove to be very sandy which made traveling difficult. So the group decided to build a church in their unincorporated neighborhood of Bay… a few miles east of Hartsfield. Those men attended Bay FWB Church until their deaths. Several of their family members continue to attend the church.
