McNease House, Fitzgerald

This T-Plan house features the most intricate Victorian detail of any in Fitzgerald. It was the longtime home of Lea Swilling McNease (1902-1988) who worked at Friedlander’s for many years. The owners have spent several years restoring it.

Now – 2024 – completed repairing all the stain glass and incorporated into the design to match the home. The wrap around porch is now completed. If you are ever in Fitzgerald – take a drive by to view. 812 W Ocmulgee Street.

As of 6/24/2023 we have added on to the wrap porch with same style railing. Spent too many hours cutting and carving to get the correct design. Also purchased the home next door – built in the 1920’s & remodeled it into a daily & weekly rental. Designed to match.

This is my home and yes – spent years getting it back to the original period when built. Construction started in 1896 (dated by materials and evidence found in the walls) and completed in 1899. Built by one the the city’s founders for his mistress. LOL

No kit home here – Looking at the exterior trim close up – most of the wood cutting & carving was done by hand.
