Noble Glen Gatekeeper’s Cottage, Circa 1820, Isle of Hope

According to the Isle of Hope Historical Association: “The area known as Wymberley was orginally settled by John Fallowfield. After his departure from the colony, the British Crown granted this property to Noble Jones, one of the original settlers who arrived from England on the ship Anne with James Oglethorpe in 1733. In the generations that followed, Wymberley was divided through bequests and grants. There were at least six families who owned parcels of land, including the Glens. Noble Glen built this home in 1820 as his gatekeeper’s cottage. It is considered to be the oldest house on the island…”
