In From Wiregrass to Sawgrass: The Blitch Family in the Southeast, Diana Voncelle Goolsby Hunnicutt notes that this land was originally owned by pioneer settler James Young. It passed to his son, Major Thomas Jones Young, whose widow, Laura M. Williams Young, later married John Gideon Blitch. Blitch built the landmark house in 1875. He died just a year later, in 1876, and his brother, William Homer Blitch, Sr., became guardian of the couple’s children. William’s family sold it to Ebenezer (Eb) Starnes Lane in 1905.
Thanks to Kenneth Dixon for sharing the history. Thanks also to Shahn-Ryan Schumacher for bringing it to my attention. The house and grounds are beautifully maintained. It is a private residence.

My name is Teresa Parker Lively my Father was John Tom Parker, my Grandparents Mr.Floyd Bennie Bunch and Lillian Mills Parker Bunch rented this Lane-Blitch house for over 26 years, I was raised in this house and have many many years of great memories of growing up in this unique home, I have way to many stories to tell and not enough space to put them in this allowed comment area! There was no bathroom inside the home at the time, only a out house in the backyard a large 3 seater,, for the girls my Grandmother had a Johnny pot- which was a type of bucket we used instead of the out house, no running water in the home as well, I remember helping my Grandmother draw water from the well on the back porch to be used in the kitchen and other areas of the house, My PA Floyd was actually my step Grandfather but the only Grandpa I knew, my Daddy’s father Richardson Sealy Parker was killed when my dad was a small child, I never got to know my Grandfather RIchard Parker as he was commonly known as , my Grandmother remarried after his death to Floyd Bunch he raised my Dad as his own, my Grandmother had 3 more children which were my dads half Brother and 2 half Sisters, my Grandpa Bunch was a good friend of Mr.Jones Lane, PA Bunch passed of lung cancer in 1976 ,eventually my Grandmother moved from the Large Blitch-Lane home to nearby Rocky Ford Ga where my Dad was born, I have read and seen several magazine articles about this very interesting home but was always so very disappointed that my Grandparents were never mentioned at all as being part of the history of this Blitch-Lane house and its unique history ,I would very well say renting a place for 26 plus years would be worth a mention of history as well as many Grandchildren including myself being raised in the Blitch-Lane home. In honor of my Daddy John Tom Parker , my Mother Leila Brogdon Parker, my Grandmother Lillian Mills Parker Bunch, my PA Floyd Bunch , Mr. Jones Lane and many Of my family members I hear by Mention our very existence of being part of the history of the Blitch-Lane home. Thank you for your time, I will always remember my cherished time at what we called Grandma and Grandpa Bunches house! …Sincerely Teresa Parker Lee Lively July 8th,2023
I would love to talk to you about the Blitch-Lane House. My grandfather was Jones Lane. Would love to see any photos you may have of the home.
Thanks.

Blitch? Did you mean Blichton, in west Chatham County? I know the latter, but not the former.

I was born in that house on September 10th, 1938, and lived in Blitch until I was 12 years old. I have lots of memories and photos of buildings at Blitch that are no longer there.
So cool. I live in the Bay Gall area close by the Blitch house. Would lovery to see photos of how it looked back then.
Would love to see photos of what the house and grounds looked like in the late 30s and early forties.
Hi! My name is Susanne Lane Maxwell, granddaughter of William Jones Lane,Sr. He refurbished the Blitch-Lane home in 1979 and I remember having Christmas there before he died in Sept. 1980. Since my father, WJ Lane, Jr. “Billy”, died in 2021, I have inherited the land around the house. I would love to see photos of the Blitch area of the past since the only building partially standing besides the big home is the storehouse. I remember visiting theTubberville store when I was a child in the early 70s.
No not Blitchton. Blitch House is in Bulloch county outside of Statesboro.
