Melvin Purvis House, Laurens County

This six-gabled farmhouse (one is on the other side) was the home of Melvin and Martha Browning Purvis. It is an amazing example of  Folk Victorian construction and is maintained as an art studio today. Thanks to Marsheila Bush Rhodes for the identification.

Is this Melvin Purvis the one who was the famous law officer of the 30’s?
Why the apes in the front yard and is anyone still living there?

No, not the same Melvin Purvis. This is the home of Henry Melvin Purvis. He was a farmer, owned a sawmill business and a commissary, and was a large landowner in the community.
