Having last photographed this local landmark in 2009 [see the history of the house and a vintage photograph here], I was determined to get some photos before it is lost forever. I understand that the most recent owners began restoration efforts in the 1990s and were unable to complete the project. I believe the house could, and should, be saved, even in its present state. [I have included the date of 1894 after consulting two sources; it may have been built slightly earlier and I’ll update if I learn more].

A gazebo, which is likely of later construction, remains on the property.

The most interesting dependency, however, is this unique structure just to the left of the house. It is believed to have been Mr. Bedgood’s home office.

Hi. I love the little town of Arabi. My mother grew up there. My husband and I tried to purchase the Bedgood home in the early 1990’s. We made plans to completely restore the beautiful old home, outbuildings and all the grounds. We were told that the family was going to have it restored. Every year that passed was sad seeing that beautiful place left to deteriorate. Had they sold it to us, today it would be beautiful and filled with love once again. Very very sad for the home.
Sincerely, Rebecca C
Thank you for all the photos and history you bring to us.
I live in Arabi actually on Crisp Turner line. My cousin Robert Phillip’s used to own but last I heard Roe Davis had. Maybe Arabi city hall could answer questions. Twila McKinney
I saw this house on my travels to Ashburn a couple years ago. So sad to see a beautiful home deteriorated. It would be wonderful to see it restored.

Hi Brian: Been following you for years, as an Architect, i love your work. Do you know if the Bedgood House is for sale? Who? Cost? actual street address? Thanks and keep up your good work Bill Muse
It is on highway 41 going south right before you get into Arabi on the right. You will pass the graveyard before you get there and there is a statue of a Mr. Bedgood. Too bad my cousin is not alive he knew a lot of Arabi history.
