Wasn,t there also a jail house and police station and post office a hair salon and pool i loved going to the pool wish it were still here ?.me and my family were raised in ochlocknee ,my father was andrew jack myrick we lived on spence street, not far from the old school buildings where ole south is at every year.
I believe and have always been told that my great great Uncle Isaac Spence (1858-1933) was the original builder of this house around 1900 or earlier. Isaac Spence was a prominent merchant in Ochlocknee and lived in the community for over 40 years until his death in 1933. Isaac was the son of Tharpe and Rebecca Wynn Spence and born in nearby Spence Community. He was married to Mary Ann Singletary in 1883. Isaac and Mary Ann never had any children, so after their passing the home has past on to other families.
Were there any gravesites or deaths that occurred in on or around this property. And did this property ever hold slaves or such for trading or for sale , being Issac was a merchant
That would be a great subject to research. If you know more about it, please share. I don’t have the ability nor the time to research the entire history of every place I photograph.
