Stockton School, 1920s, Lanier County

This facility, which housed grades 1-11, was built in the Mission Revival style popular in schoolhouse architecture of the 1920s. The interior remains in fairly good condition; the stucco siding is non-historic and was obviously added later. A full restoration would require removal of the stucco.

My mother taught for 2 years in this school in Stockton. I have a picture of the faculty and her. It was likely taken in late 20s, early 30s.Her first cousin, Anne Hadden Pafford, with her husband ran a department store in Lakeland. My mother had just graduated from Granite Hill Agriculture and Mechanics School in Hancock County. She passed an exam that certified her to teach Grades 1-8 and was awarded the Normal Diploma. Her cousin wrote her about the job and she boarded in Lakeland and taught 2nd grade. Glad to see the pic of her old school
