
The building at left was constructed as the Odd Fellows Hall in 1901 and the shotgun store on the right, the only remaining wood-framed commercial building in Demorest, was built in 1893.

I live here and was told that the “ shotgun house “ was the morgue and the grey building was the the hospital.

I believe that the shotgun building was originally a cobbler shop owned by the father or grandfather of Johnny Mize (New York Yankee and MLB Hall-of-Famer). I was told this by Mr. Hoyt Scoville who renovated those two buildings in the 1980s.
