Definitely an incongruous addition!
I agree, that dormer just looks out of place (& period style) on this house. Otherwise, my husband said this house is very much like his grandparents’ house in Shelby, NC, with those angled (vs squared) porch corners! Sadly, their house is no longer standing. But we do have a photo of it.
