This Italianate-inspired Victorian is located across from the Isle of Hope Marina. It was once owned by Alexander M. Barbee, of Barbee’s Pavilion fame, and later by his daughter, Gertrude Barbee Brady and her husband, Bill Brady. Mr. Brady owned Brady’s Boat Works, which eventually became the Isle of Hope Marina.

Wonderful house! I looked into buying it, 40 years ago, when it was a bit run-down and needed some work. i never went inside, as the price at the time was about three times what I thought it was worth, and I knew it would cost a good chunk to bring it back to its original glory. I just did not have that kind of money. But I am glad to see someone else did. It is near the western end of Bluff Drive, a very scenic narrow road along the river.
When I was young, on weekends in December, my dad would sometimes take me and my younger brothers for a ride down Bluff Drive in the evenings, to look at all the Christmas lights. We were always amazed by the number of boats docked at that marina that had strings of lights all over them — especially the masts! We always thought that was so cool.
Years later, I worked for a gasoline distributor in Savannah who supplied fuel to that Marina for resale to the boats that docked there. But I wasn’t paid enough to buy that house!
