Boston Methodist Church, 1876

The congregation first built a church here in 1872. This building replaced it after a fire in 1876. Brick was added to the church in 1909 and in 1945 it was partially reconstructed after another fire.

I was baptized in this church in 1971, my grandmother was born across the street in 1913, I grew up in this church, I cant believe its still standing. Brings back a lot of memories.

My oldest son is minoring in photography. He googled small churches and your picture came up. WOW.. can’t tell you how much it means to us! My husband, John Drake, is a United Methodist Minister… and this was the first Charge that he served, from 1995-2000. Have you gotten pictures of the Grooverville churches.. the Grooverville UMC is on the National Historic Registry. There is also another church outside of Barwick called Oak Grove UMC. Thanks so much for Sharing this picture.

So nice to hear from you, Cyndee. Your son must be loving photography classes. Wish I’d done that in college. I love the Boston church, but it’s really difficult to photograph. Thanks for the advice on the other churches; I’ll definitely check them out! Thanks again, and I wish your son the best of luck; I’d love to see some of his work…
