Central of Georgia Depot, Circa 1895, Leesburg

After the depot was decommissioned by the railroad, it served as both Leesburg City Hall and the library for a time. It was badly damaged by a storm in 2006.

After numerous delays beginning in 2002, the depot was finally restored and reopened as the visitor center and Chamber of Commerce in 2018.

This structure has been fully renovated to be an event space. It looks brand new. I hear that it is very nice on the inside as well.

I’m an architectural historian at GDOT, and stabilization of the depot is a project of ours. The project is currently on schedule, although I don’t know when construction will begin. Anyone who is interested in the project can request to be a consulting party in the Section 106 process by referencing PI #0009264 and contacting the Office of Environmental Services. http://www.dot.ga.gov/AboutGDOT/Offices
