Could it be possible for these men to have been station in the area during the Reconstruction Era?
In Orangeburg SC several black Union soldiers died during Reconstruction and were buried in the Catholic cemetery. Later theit bodies were removed to a public cemetery. Very possible their original markers with names got lost prior to relocation. Just a possibility in your situation.
Actually, I believe some of these may have been Andersonville casualties, reinterred here later. I will have to check into it.
