I worked for (Uncle)Jack Crosby on his farm with Aunt Mary and stayed with Aunt Bertha in her log home during the summers between 1962 thru 1969 and spent some fun times in town. At 13 years old I would drive the farm hands to a store there to purchase lunch for those that did not bring anything. We would then drive back to the tobacco fields or barns and go back to work. It was hard work but good times. My Grand Parents, Lonnie & Julie Chapman lived out tin the country from Sale CIty.

Wish I knew more, Raymond. I only know that it was called that because it was a large agricultural market, predominately pecans, I believe…I’m sure they wouldn’t have a newspaper these days.

albany herald. I spent many summers in sale city. My grand father Jack Lester West was born in sale city and died as well. He lived in the house his family built and he grew up with 12 brothers and sisters. He moved away for a short time married was in the army. He eventually moved back with my grand mother Minnie Oliva West. He lived in the house he was born in and died living there. Unfortunately the house burned to the ground and my uncle sold off everything. The property had been in our family since the late 1800. John Alfred West you should be ashamed of yourself.
Cathy,u said your Dad was Jep Cox,my Aunt Bell Herrington married A Cox also have u heard of her.I belive she married A Jep Cox but older than your Dad.
HI, want to share this story with all looking at this photo….My daddy grew up there he was born in 1937, to Jep and Barbara Cox…any way..back in the day the road out front of these store fronts was dirt…and on his walk to school every morning he would stop and sweep out the middle store for the owner and receive a dime for his pay. Just love that bit of history and wanted to share it with anyone who might be looking into some of the History of Sale City.. Thank you. 🙂
We so enjoy this website, daddy and I went through many of the towns last night and he showed me so many things, like the courthouse where he received his small pox shot and he got sick and had to go sit outside under a tree…..a house in a photo that his daddy helped do work on when he was a boy in another town…he had stories about camilla, enigma, sale city and a couple of more…when I get a minute I will go to the pictures and post his stories…Thanks so much for what you do….it was the most enjoyable couple of hours spent between my dad and me. Thanks again, keep a look out for my post soon. 🙂
