Built by Captain Caleb Peacock, a Confederate veteran, the Peacock Hotel was demolished in 1958.

    I couldn’t have been more than 5 or 6 back in 1960 – ’61 when my Grandmother, Mrs. Morris (Mervin) Hill took me to the Peacock for lunch. I don’t remember what we ate except for the corn pones! I do recall the dining room, to my child’s mind, as being big and airy. Thank you for the opportunity to reminisce.
