Buster Brown Shoes Neon Sign, Thomasville

I’m told that the sign has been removed as of 2016.

I tried to buy that sign about 25 years with intentions of donating to a museum but the store owners said no. It will make me sick to hear that sign is not preserved for future generations to enjoy. Does anyone know what actually happened to it?

My father sold it to a collector when the city made him take it down several years ago. It had become a hazard since the glass from the neon was broken and falling off.

My brother owned this store, with it gone, seems just so “different” . Great pic of his sign. Really like and appreciate what You are doing with all the pictures. Thanks

Me too! In the late 60s we’d drive into town on Saturdays with my parents and grandparents to do the shopping and about once a year my brother and I would get new shoes. Then we’d get a Coke in a glass bottle which was a special treat back then. Always had to see the big oak too.
