I lived in Cordele from the late 70s through mid 80s and was married at FUMC. I recently drove through the downtown area and was saddened to see all the abandonment. The new courthouse is beautiful, but seeing the old building abandoned was heartbreaking. I suppose it may have been constructed in the asbestos era and too expensive to redo for office space. It was like a ghost town.
