Hello Ms. Belvin.. My name is Dolphanie Lewis. I am saw your post regarding your family. I am from Macon,Ga But my husband has lived in Peach County all of yes life(69 yrs) I’ll ask him if he know any of the names you have mentioned. He told me that a lady was telling him about Buck Hill Baptist Church. So one day when he went to get watermelons he took a picture of the church. I told him I think the church changed its name to Mt. Olive Baptist. He does have any ties to the church he just like history. If He knows any names I’ll email you. Good luck on your research. I see this post was from Oct 2022. Hopefully you have had some success. Enjoy your Day

Funny I tumbled up on this page with Cordele Ga displaying some of it Landmark building. Mom (Mattie Moseley) often spoke about Cordele, where she was born. She spoke often of not having shoes and walking along dusty roads.l I took her back to her home in 1999..to let her get a glimpse of the Town where she, her sister Rose and Mother Elizabeth resided. Just a little hick town to me. I have a picture I took of her standing on the grounds of a Church – Church of God in Christ). Mom mostly remembered a water tower which was very dilapidated in 1999. Needless to say she was shocked at the changes and renovations. But she found a couple of acquaintances there though most had left for Miami,,Florida. I am sure back in 1928 the date she gives as her birth date (No Records found of her documented birth) there was abject poverty, remnants of slavery and racism.

      Hello Ms. Fletcher,

I too, am seeking information on African American people in the following areas: Pinehurst, Lilly, Vienna, Cordele, etc., but especially Pinehurst, GA. I am the great, great granddaughter of Lizzie Tucker. Mary Jane Gilbert is my great grandmother, Carrie Mae Gilbert is my grandmother, and Johnny Lee Daniels was my great uncle. Other family names I am searching for history on are: Tucker, Gilbert, Belvin, Campbell, Blackshear, Daughtry and Newton.

They all lived in Pinehurst, Cordele, Telfair/McRae, Valdosta, Fitzgerald, Peach County, Irwin County, Dodge County, and Savannah Georgia. Finally moving to Miami, Florida, Coconut Grove, FL, and Richmond Heights, FL.

I would be ever so appreciative if someone could provide any information on African American people in the above areas like oral & written history, and photos.

      My contact information is belvinma@gmail.com.

      Thank you.

      Kind regards,
      Mechelle
