Women’s Relief Corps Hall, 1900, Fitzgerald

The Women’s Relief Corps (W.R.C.) was the auxiliary of the Grand Army of the Republic (G. A. R.), the leading Union veterans’ organization. Due to its Union beginnings, Fitzgerald had the largest G. A. R. post in the South. Union veterans and their sons built the hall for the W. R. C.  It’s one of the most significant landmarks related to Civil War women’s history in South Georgia.
