Collins is a small town in northern Tattnall County. It was settled in the late 19th century, primarily by members of the Collins family and was named for pioneer settler James Perry Collins (1815-1891). The post office opened in 1890 and the town was chartered in 1894. As of 2020, the population was 540.

The coolest building was the red front drug store. The doors folded back to a complete opening to the street!! Cherry Sodas! Groovy tights. Bandages, makeup and everything Walgreens now stocks!! Plus prescription delivery on a bicycle like it’s a wonderful life! The tall shelves behind the marble counters, the whipping brown ceiling fans against a pressed metal ceiling. It was surely one of a kind!!
Sad. I remember when there was a large store (Joseph Evans) on the corner by the railroad and a nice old-time drugstore tracks. There still is a beautiful little marble bank building, a cemetery with very old historic monuments, and some lovely old Victorian style homes.
Growing up Mr Joey Singleton had his hardware store just past the pharmacy on the left hand side
Quaint, quiet small town where everybody knows everybody, and if they don’t know you, they will make it their business to meet, and greet, you. Takes you back to a time that has all but been forgotten.
