Futch’s Store, Tattnall County

This old country store is located at the intersection of Georgia Highway 121 and Slim Ray Road. Tom Hill writes that it was owned by Theron Futch and his wife, who lived next door. He believes it was open into the 1990s.

    from my cousin in Reidsville:
It’s Futch’s store. Futch’s Store is located at the corner of Stony Hill Church Rd and US 121. Headed south on 121 out of Reidsville Stony Hill Ch Rd. is to the left just before you get to the store and Slim Ray is to the right in front of the store. Theron Futch and his wife ran the store until about 1990 something as I recall and lived in the brick house beside the store, the corner of which can be seen in the right side of the photo. Sidebar; Theron was a substitute mailman. He delivered mail to the Forestry office where I worked until he retired. Some folks called him a cranky old S.O.B. and at times he could be but was a good fellow. When he was on the mail route he didn’t take time to talk but if you stopped by the store he would B S with you all day long. He tried to help get a fire station located in that area and had Forestry Commission RFD fire truck parked at the store for a while. But he never got enough volunteers or any money from the County to make it go.
