1989 Snowstorm, Fitzgerald

Browning House

I made this image of my grandmother’s house just before Christmas, 1989. It remains the only “White Christmas” I’ve experienced in my lifetime.

Note: As of late 2024, this house is no longer standing.

Brian, this snow is of course an issue with Georgians, even if it is only occasional…i also remember a snow “crisis” in Atlanta…it was “paralyzing” and snow tires were not to be found…at that time a Russian Bolshoi music essemble was in town and in waiting…when this rare event was cancelled because of snow, the Russians thought it was “snow” from “above” from some buerocrat in Washington…the Russians could not believe that Atlantans would be deprieved of their musical performance because of a little snow…i cannot “affix” an exact date to this occurrence…but it was a “stunning” snow crisis…i am also no longer certain about the name of the
theater-auditiorium, but perhaps it was the “Fox” or similar name. I remember that i was mobile, because i placed logs into my VWbus, as it helped to get traction with this vehicle as i moved about in Atlanta…

Don’t know if we’ll get snow in Moultrie but school has been canceled for Wednesday and the grandkids are okay with that. Stay warm.

    Hi Brian,com

Love your photographs!  Jesup/Wayne County would be a great place for many wonderful photographs for your collectuion.  Also, we, the Wayne County Historical Society, would be honored if you could come to one of our meetings to show some of your work.  We have access to projector and screen.  We meet at Sybil’s Restaurant on the second Thursday of each month except summer months.
