Bob Koch, who recently purchased this “block” related to me that a bank, post office, and the city hall have all been located here over the years. Today, he has a great classic motorcycle shop [Vintage Motors] here, and there’s a bookstore, as well.
I was amazed to see the identification on the support columns. They were made by Fitzgerald Iron Works, in my hometown of Fitzgerald, probably in the first or second decade of the 20th century.

Hi, In doing some rather hard-won genealogy work, I have deduced that my GGGGrandfather and GGGUncle both worked at the Fitzgerald Iron Works in 1900. They were Lauritz Larsen, foundryman and Ulrick O. Larsen, machinist. Finding this photo was amazing for me. I could go touch this and imagine one of them creating it. Very cool, indeed!
Thanks Brian, I enjoyed your visit the other day! Just a minor correction, the office block faces Lynn Bonds Ave so while it is on the corner of Pine and Lynn Bonds, the addresses for all three store fronts are 201 – 205 Lynn Bonds.
My husband and I go to a gospel sing in Guyton once a year and we love to ride around and look at the old houses.
Thanks Brian. Would love to have more photos of the cast iron work. I love the old cast iron storefronts which were as prolific on commercial buildings from the 1880’s through WW I era as aluminum storefronts are today. The cast iron is still around after 130 years but I expect (hope?) our great grandchildren will not be saying the same thing about the aluminum in 2121.
