Guyton United Methodist Church, 1840s

To my knowledge, this is the only antebellum structure standing in Guyton. There was a Confederate hospital in the community and General William T. Sherman’s forces occupied the area in their approach to Savannah so I was intrigued to learn that this wonderful old church was somehow spared. I’d appreciate further information on its history. It’s known today as Guyton United Methodist Church.

We live directly in front of this beautiful church. Really enjoy the 11:00 o’clock bell every Sunday.

It’s circa 1848-1850. My parents were married in this church. There are at least two other antebellum structures in Guyton, including my parents’ house. Thanks so much for all you are doing!

Surely the church has some info. Troops no doubt utilized the church for some purpose tho they may have used it for recuperating pts. rather than stabling horses as they did to the churches in Milledgeville.
