I’m sad to report that Carswell Grove Baptist Church, the centerpiece of one of Georgia’s most historic African-American congregations, was a victim of arson on Sunday, 16 November 2014. I can only wonder what motivates such actions but since Carswell Grove has rebuilt in the past, I believe it will overcome this senseless tragedy. Deacon Palmer Lewis has been overseeing a renovation of this property for several years and is still hopeful for its future.

I believe there is an old African American Church in Baker County-Newton, Ga. that in the last few years also burnt.
So saddened to hear this.
Than ks so much for your thoughts and expression,
Dea. Palmer Lewis
Damn them to hell, whoever did it!
How can anyone do such a horrible thing…..
A terrible loss for the community and to all of us that enjoy American architecture.
