Oakland, Circa 1868, Jewell

The house pictured here, like most I’ve documented in the community, is located on the Warren County side of the Ogeechee River; part of historic Jewell is located in Hancock County, as well. “Cason” writes: “The pictured home was my great grand father’s home called Oakland. The owner was Adam Rodgers Cason.

As evidenced by the accomplished architectural styles present in the area, it was much more prosperous in its early history.

      The pictured home was my great grand father’s home called Oakland. The owner was Adam Rodgers Cason. Ida Cason’s home was on the other side of the Ogeechee River and was called Rock Mill. The owner of that home was Alexander Toombs Cason Ida’s father, and he ran a mill along side of his home.,
