Though elevated and altered during its history, this is a rare surviving example of Federal architecture in Augusta. The lot was purchased by Gabriel Clark in 1814 and it is known that Dr. Paul Fitzsimmons Eve, one of early Augusta’s most prominent physicians, lived here by 1841. He served as a surgeon in the Polish-Russian War (November Uprising) of 1830. I’m using the date of construction given in Georgia: The WPA Guide to its Town and Countryside (Federal Writers’ Project, 1940) but haven’t located a certain date as yet.

It is a marvelous structure that remains in excellent shape. There are many stories that go with its almost 200 years of existance
