Cubbedge House, Guyton

I’ve been told that this was the Cubbedge House, but haven’t been able to find out anything else. It’s an ornate home and quite difficult to photograph.

Couldn’t stand it……..Had to look it up.
    Built in 1900.
Tax Assessor websites are sometimes wondrous things, even though I had to look it up by a map grid, address wasn’t enuff 😉

I lived in this house from 1985 to 1990, it belonged to a Doctor and his wife that lived in Savannah, I think they lived in it before. I lived on the left side of it. It was divided into 2 “apartments”. It has huge sliding wooden doors to the 2 bedrooms on the side I lived in. they went from ceiling to floor.
Scenes from the B horror movie Gates Of Hell were filmed in this house as well (yep the side I lived in 😉

Gates Of hell was filmed in April of 1980, really cool that you lived in that house where a cult horror classic was filmed.

I remember staying a couple of nights in this house in the early 90s when my uncle and his wife renten it. Very creepy place, all sorts of weird paranormal stuff happened there. It was still set up from the kitchen since in Gates of hell if I remember correctly, where the blood was dropping from the ceiling freaking that poor kid out.

Thanks for sharing your experiences in the house. I read somewhere that the filmmakers used a hovercraft which was bolted down to simulate the wind in The Gates Of Hell and it was so strong that trees were bending it was so strong. I believed they filmed there in April of 1980 and shot other scenes in Rincon, Port Wentworth, Midway, and in Savannah. The movie was released in it’s native Italy in 1980 but didn’t premiere in the U.S. until 1983 and it played locally at the Oglethorpe Mall Cinemas in Savannah.
