Captain Frank Dean (c. 1863-1948) was one of the last of the river pilots to work in Sapelo Sound during the timber boom of late-19th-century Darien. He and his wife Minnie opened their home to Catholics in the area for Mass in the years between 1912 and 1945, when Nativity of Our Lady was consecrated in Darien.

Dear Brian, I am desperately in need of some help. My Great Grandmother, Mary Ellen(Russ)Layton was born in Janesville, Georgia…no county was given.I would like to know exactly where in Georgia this is. According to census records , I do know that she lived in Liberty County . Her parents were Samuel Alexander Russ and Elizabeth(Campbell) Russ. She was the last child, born.
