Johnson House, Circa 1880, Sapelo Island

An old, dilapidated wooden cabin covered with moss and surrounded by lush greenery and a large tree with Spanish moss.

This is among the oldest surviving houses on the island. It is located in Johnson Hummock, adjacent to Hog Hummock.

    Bryan, I enjoy your beautiful photographs of coastal Georgia. I especially treasure the photographs from Sapelo. I was fortunate to work at the Marine Institute in the early 1960’s. Your photographs bring back mane pleasant memories. It is sad to see many buildings in Hog Hammock falling into decay. I wish it would be possible for residents and SCAD to work at some restorations.
