Evans County Courthouse, 1923, Claxton

The Evans County Courthouse was built in 1923 at a cost of $60,000, replacing temporary offices in the White Building. It was one of several in the area designed by prolific courthouse architect J. J. Baldwin.

    It’s a shame Hartwell didn’t rebuild their courthouse to look like this after the last fire. The new structure is the ugliest and unimpressional structure that doesn’t fit very well with the architecture of this lovely tourist town it has become.
