This eclectic Colonial Revival home is one of the most impressive in Montezuma, really one of those houses you can’t drive past without noticing. And if you love old houses, you should visit Montezuma and spend a day admiring the architecture.

I enjoyed a wonderful supper in that home in the late 1970’s/early 1980’s. I was invited by Dr. Carl Savage to sit next to him having met the good Dr. earlier that day. I attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia and while there I made friends with Jim Albritton of Montezuma who was a childhood friend of Dr. Savages grandson. The home was unbelievable. Having grown up decidedly lower middle class in Decatur I was in awe. As well appointed as was the home nothing compared to the courtly and engaging manner of Dr. Savage. If I had the ability to revisit fond memories my evening meal visiting with Dr. Savage would be in that list.
Thanks for sharing. What a wonderful memory. I wish I could find more about Dr. Savage.
I know the current owners. They are looking to sale. Have had the wiring and plumbing modernized.
I lived in this house in the mid 80-s.I worked on this home for 7months,6-days a week 8-hours aday.I did a lot of woodwork on the outside that included replacing capitols, the top railing was down, roof supports, trim, porch flooring and much more.I hand scraped the house and hand painted,it took well over 100 gal.
Thanks for this background information, Tom. Fascinating house, and thank goodness you did that work. It would be a shame to see such a house go to ruin.
I lived there in the late ’70’s.
Lucky you! What a great old home!
